Take a look at the map that was leaked to Jalopnik. Take a real close look, all of the shapes are identical to the vehicle they represent. And the Phoenix looks exactly like a Mustang. I am calling it now that it will be some crazy Mustang and not a GT successor.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:08 |

If Hummingbird is the GT350, then I will guess the Hummingbird 2 is the GT350R. So could the Phoenix be the GT500?
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:09 |
|
If that's the case, the Phoenix is exactly the same as the Hummingbird 2 and SVT Raptor.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:09 |

my hopes are for a self immolating mustang...just to shake things up and show Ferrari again that anything they can do, Ford can do. Hence, Phoenix.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:11 |
|
Look again. Blow it up. The Raptor looks like a truck, while the others look like a Mustang.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:12 |
|
Except for not at all. The Hummingbird 2 and Phoenix are Mustangs where as the Raptor is clearly a Truck.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:12 |
|
That's my best guess.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:12 |

Does anyone else notice the two GT esque cars on the left of the picture, one is a GT40 and the other a GT which would make sense to me to put the new one there in the Phoenix spot because as you walk in you would see all three versions with the new one as the focal point.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:13 |
|
Just hinders back to their glory days.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:13 |
|
It's still the same as H-Bird 2, and I was pretty sure one of them was supposed to be the Focus RS.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:14 |
|
Look at those two cars on the far left bearing some Shelby coupe inspiration.... not a mustang or GT
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:14 |
|
They're not consistent. The Raptor drawing is the same as the other two in the "main" area. Also, why would they put a GT40 and a GT flanking the entrance if the main event isn't a new GT? If it was a Mustang, they'd put an old and new Mustang at the entrance.
You could be right, but your evidence isn't solid.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:16 |
|
They look like the new GT... unlike any GT I've seen
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:20 |
|
The hoods are different than the other trucks.
This Mustang is going to be a track pack that hinders back to the old days.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:21 |
|
We will see next week, but Im calling it as the Mustang.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:24 |
|
Where the heck is the RS? Or is it just not happening.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:26 |
|
I think it's a GT, but only time will tell. Otherwise, it makes zero sense in putting the first two generations of GTs at the entrance.
Plus, there's just too much buzz around a new, more modern GT to ignore. Keep in mind what a "Phoenix" is, and it makes the case.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:32 |
|
Geneva, probably.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:35 |
|
My guess is Hummingbird is a Mustang (GT350 or new GT500?) since it's flanked by other Mustangs (including an original GT500, which makes me think 500 over 350).
Still doesn't make sense that they'd pull out the GT and GT40 if Phoenix wasn't a supercar.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:35 |
|
Well now I'm rightfully pissed. I was looking forwards to seeing it next week. -_-
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:38 |

Dude, with that placement, its a GT successor. I'm calling it. Heck, I'll bet on it and give you favored odds.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:46 |

Its not. But nice try.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:47 |

Just hinting back to their performance days.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:48 |

Could be a GT500 to go against the Hellcat.

This blows.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:55 |

Even if it does, it still won't look as good or be as practical.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:57 |
|
I wouldn't look to much in to that. They're placeholders. Ford has kept this secret very well. They weren't about to let a map leak something like this. The Raptor is slightly different because it's a truck.
The colors however, are supposedly accurate.
And think about it, you walk in and you're in front of a Ford GT and GT40. Why would a Mustang be right there? It just makes more sense.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:57 |
|
I noticed that it's clearly a truck, I'm disappointed at no Focus RS.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:57 |
|
Want to bet? Let's bet right now.
If it is a Mustang, I'll post to Oppo headlined "Jay Hoff Is Awesome" and write about how you are amazing and smart.
If its a GT, you must post to Oppo headlines "Macanamera Is Awesome" and tell everyone how fantastic I am.
Deal?
If it's a Ford Fusion or something, it's a push, neither of us does anything.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 13:57 |
|
True. Id rather have the Hellcat.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:00 |
|
Im going to be right on this.
The Phoenix would have been in the shape of what is being placed there, and since its clearly a a Mustang, its going to be a Mustang. The GT and GT40 just hinder back to Fords amazing racing program.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:01 |

The map still holds secrets, notice how that far corner is bent where the Focus should be.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:01 |

Id take the Charger over the Challenger because I have kids. Itd be cheaper to take my kids for a ride in that, than take them to a theme park.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:07 |
|
I have no kids and am broke, so I'll stick with my old Toyota for now. But if someone made me choose which one I'd take for free, I'd go for the Challenger with a manual. I'm tired of my autotragic.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:07 |

I wouldn't count on a GT500 successor for awhile. Ford Performance has had their hands full. The new Raptor, GT350, another GT350 variant, Focus RS, a GT500 successor, other vehicles we don't know about yet and maybe, just maybe a new GT. Ford Performance will be bringing out a total of 12 vehicles in the next five years. I'm struggling to come up with 12 vehicles, maybe a GT isn't to crazy.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:11 |

The wager is official. Good day.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:13 |

Why would they bring a GT40, and a GT to the reveal of a Mustang? If they were harkening back to the glory days, while revealing a Mustang, it would make more sense to bring earlier models like a GT350/500/Mach1/Cobra R and the like. Other than the fact that they shared to 289/5.4, and raced on the same tracks, the GT40/GT had nothing to do with the Mustang.
I'll bet they shaped Phoenix like a Mustang to keep its cover.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:15 |
|
The old GT350 is there.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:15 |

Have you noticed all the Mustang's look like 2013-2014 models?
I wouldn't put anything on the shape of the cars. Ford isn't showing any 2014 Mustang's. Well they could be, but not any 2.3 models!

![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:21 |

Yes, but why are there two cars unrelated to the GT350 front and center, and only one historic GT350R stuck back in the corner? Sorry but the set-up does not allude to a Mustang being the star.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:23 |

Its going to be a full blown racing version of the Mustang.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:27 |

If thats the case, i'm more interested about #60, the Mustang GT Premium Coupe that appears to be on its side in a ditch...
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:30 |

Shows the underbody of the car for the public to look at.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:33 |

What about #35, the Fiesta 4D Premium Ecoboost that clearly has airplane wings?
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:42 |
|
Why is this one on its side, I know it's Detroit but still.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:43 |

Shows the underside for the drivetrain, suspension.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:47 |

No chance its a Mustang. The code name for the GT350 was Hummingbird, so it only makes sense that Hummingbird 2 is probably the GT350R. I doubt they are going to have yet another Mustang above the GT350 rigs. There is no way the Focus RS or Raptor will take center stage here. That is the spot for the Halo car.
Next consider that Ford has announced it will be competing in 2 race series with what is supposed to be a race variant of a Ford GT successor. And finally, consider what a 'Phoenix' represents. A Phoenix dies and as reborn out of the ashes. Makes perfect sense for another rebirth of the Ford GT
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:47 |
|
Modern version of this?
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:49 |
|
Because putting the actual silhouette of a car that virtually no one knows about onto the floor plan for the show before it's revealed is a thing that they would do.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:50 |
|
This was never intended to get out in public, even the Raptor is not even confirmed as being there.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 14:53 |

Aww, it's cute that you think this leak was unintentional:) It's just a little too staged IMO.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 15:09 |

And witnessed by many!
p.s. hummingbird is the internal name of the gt350
![]() 01/09/2015 at 15:13 |

we are talking about Pheonix

Why put the 5.2L next to the Humming Bird 2 if it wasn't going to be the GT350R?
![]() 01/09/2015 at 15:22 |
|
Oh I know you are.
He was just saying the Phoenix was a type of Mustang too, and I'm here to tell you the Mustang follows the Hummingbird Designation.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 15:23 |

Why would the put the 5.2L next to the Humming Bird 2 if it wasn't a GT350R?
![]() 01/09/2015 at 15:25 |

Why would they make a race car that is not purchasable the centerpiece of the entire display?
![]() 01/09/2015 at 15:28 |

I just have to ask do you know what hinder really means?
So the GT and GT40 are trying to hold back their amazing race program?

![]() 01/09/2015 at 15:44 |

As many have said I'm not going to bet that it's a Mustang, they wouldn't put a GT40 and GT at the entrance, they'd have an old GT350 and maybe a first gen. I wouldn't say just hinting at the history of their motor racing efforts if this car wasn't going to be a new GT40, the BASIS of most of Ford's racing history.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 15:52 |
|
GT40 - this car is 60 years old, they wouldn't bring it out if they weren't showing the new one.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 15:55 |

Ford never said that the RS was going to be in Detroit. Seeing as it has an actual reputation in Europe, it only makes sense to unveil it over there.

Anybody else notice the 5.2 liter engine display behind the phoenix?
![]() 01/09/2015 at 16:14 |
|
...I'll bet they shaped Phoenix like a Mustang to keep its cover.
That's entirely possible.
I am trying to imagine what the display will look like in person. The GT40 and GT are positioned in an interesting fashion. It's like they are the standing guard or ready to pass the torch to the Phoenix, which is positioned very prominently. If the Phoenix is a Mustang, I suspect it to be GT40-inspired in some way. Whatever it is, will be badass, to say the least.

I think the real answer is, and I speak as someone who loves new car releases and teases, WHO THE FUCK CARES?
We will find out when the cars are revealed and regardless of whether it is a Mustang or GT it will be glorious.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 18:54 |

From rumors I've heard, it's a new GT by Ford, not necessarily a reboot of the GT40. Either way, so long as they race it as a factory effort (and do so long-term instead of giving up after two years) I don't really care what it is.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 19:51 |

Oh.
![]() 01/09/2015 at 19:52 |
